Andrey Arshavin's First full year at the club

Just over 12 months ago we witnessed the signing of the Russian Andrey Arshavin to Arsenal. He signed for the Gunners on February 3rd from Zenit St Petersburg for a fee thought to be around 12-15 million pounds.

Arsenal got to see him in action for the first time against Sunderland on February 21st 2009. He made a good impact and came close to scoring a number of times. However his first goal in the red of Arsenal came almost a month later from a very tight angle in a 4-0 win against Blackburn on March 15th.

Arsenal fans got to see him play 14 times in the 2008/09 season where he scored 6 goals in all competitions. 4 of them came in the 4-4 draw at Anfield with Liverpool where he was untouchable and Arsenal fans got to see his full potential. What a great job Arsene Wengar had done in bringing him to the club for such a bargain. Unfortunately we could not see him in champions league action because he had already played for Zenit in the earlier stages of the competion despite them dropping out in the group stages.

So far this season (2009/10) he has played 27 times plus 4 coming on as a substitute, he has scored 9 goals. Andrey's best game this season has surely been the 4-1 win in the champions league at home to AZ Alkmaar in November where he provided assists to 3 of the Gunners goals. Andrey at the moment has a hamstring injury and will be out for the Sunderland game at the weekend.

In Arshavin's first full year at the club he has played 41 times plus coming on as a sub 5 times and scoring 15 goals.

We hope Andrey will stay at the club for years to come as he is a great player and definately deserves to be playing in the red of Arsenal.
